About The Robotic Training Network
The vision of the Robotic Training Network (RTN) is to standardize the robotic surgical curriculum and education for residents/fellows-in-training (OBGYN and SURGERY) through the development of a collaborative network. This network is led by a multidisciplinary team of surgeons who are also Fellows in the American College of Surgeons (FACS) and the American Congress of Obstetricians and Gynecology (FACOG) representing nine founding members from leading academic institutions in the United States.
We are pleased to offer the opportunity for residency programs to obtain a robotic training kit that can be used in conjunction with our standardized robotic surgical training curriculum. Since 2010, nine Obstetrics and Gynecology programs have collaborated to form the Robotic Training Network with a mission to develop an educational curriculum to teach the basic principles of robotic surgery. Our goal is to design a standardized approach to teach basic robotic surgical skills in a stepwise fashion to trainees throughout Graduate Medical Education training programs.
As representatives of the Robotic Training Network, we have designed and validated an assessment tool to complement our educational robotic surgical training curriculum. Five robotic exercises (tower transfer drill, roller coaster drill, needle management drill, suturing drill and knot tying drill) were tested among various institutions and found to demonstrate reliability and construct validity for basic robotic skills.
We would like to share our curriculum and assessment tool with all interested programs, with the goal of standardizing an effective robotic surgical training curriculum. We are inviting residency programs to join the Robotic Training Network to gain access to the curriculum, skills drills and assessment tools. By participating in the network, we ask programs provide feedback to assist us in further validation of a standardized robotic surgical curriculum and assessment tool. Fifty training kits have been donated by Intuitive Surgical, Inc. We are excited to offer free training kits to the first 50 programs that join the Robotic Training Network and agree to participate in the curriculum and share assessment outcomes (please refer to Appendix A for details). If you are interested, please complete the demographic information sheet attached for consideration.
